Poll: Majority Of Arizonans Favor Legalizing Marijuana

  • by Paul Armentano, NORML Deputy Director June 8, 2015

Poll: Most Arizonans Favor Legalizing Marijuana For Personal UseMost Arizonans support permitting adults to legally possess marijuana for personal consumption, according to statewide polling data commissioned by the Behavioral Research Center.

Fifty-three percent of respondents favor legalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana for personal use. That is an increase of two percent compared to when pollsters asked a similar question last year.

Only 39 percent of respondents disapproved of the notion of legalizing cannabis.

Legalization supporters were more likely to be under the age of 35 (71 percent) and to vote Democrat (64 percent). Respondents age 55 or older (45 percent) and Republicans (33 percent) were least likely to support legalizing the plant for adult use.

Arizona is one of several states where voters will likely decide whether or not to legalize and regulate the use, production, and retail sale of the plant in 2016.

And a record number (56%) of likely voters in California favor legalization according to the Public Institute of California (PPIC) poll released today, June 8.

Come on AZ, let’s get the tidal wave rolling eastward! Maybe the POS Pres will give in for 2016 and sign the one executive order he really needs to sign!!!

So 71% of those under 35 support legalization. How long will it take the GOP to realize their opposition to reform looses elections and ain’t gonna cut it in the future?

The reason you can own an assault rifle, but not a joint is because the NRA votes as a block.

      There’s a moral there somewhere….

Make voting reform the norm. :)

Legalizing Arizona… Sounds like the movie “Raising Arizona,” except instead of robbing a convenience store for pampers the movie is about the Arizona Attorney General robbing taxpayers lobbying for prohibition. Not as funny as pampers, but just as dirty…

These numbers must be terrifying for the embedded establishment within the Arizona Republican legislature. Think of all the private prison owners! The crooked informants, double agents and arms dealers! Are we saying they need to get REAL jobs in the new legalized hemp and marijuana market?
…Wait, lemme read those polls again…
Oh, yes, it would appear that IS what we’re saying…

Please REGISTER everyone you know to VOTE Arizona!!!

      @ Galileo Galilei,

It will take the GOPers a bit longer to realize they are on the wrong side of history, to understand that eventually they will suffer the wrath of their folly, because they are so tunnel-visioned. They always take their wins in the off-presidential elections as proof that America believes in their visions. Conversely, they tend to ignore their defeats during the presidential-election years as aberrations.

They will be in for a few more rude shocks before the cold water of reality finally washes away their delusions. Their hardcore base is dying off every day. They seem almost incapable of understanding this.
