Speaking to the press this evening, Attorney General Jeff Sessions doubled down on his infamous reefer madness rhetoric. Sessions stated:

“We’re seeing real violence around that. Experts are telling me there’s more violence around marijuana than one would think and there’s big money involved.”

Sessions’ latest comments describe a reality that only exists in the world of alternative facts. Marijuana legalization has not lead to increased crime or violence, but rather is associated with lowered youth use rates and access, increased tax revenue, and fewer arrests of otherwise law abiding American citizens. The truth is that legalization is working as voters have intended and that the new US Attorney General’s opinions are reckless, irresponsible, and outright false.

These statements are not only out of touch with reality and public sentiment, but they also go against President Trump’s promise on the campaign trail to leave marijuana policy to the states. If you support legalization now is not the time to be silent. Now is the time to stand up and fight back.

The only way to ensure our progress continues in light of this proposed push back is to pass federal legislation that makes certain that the Attorney General can’t intervene in states that have enacted adult use regulatory laws. We need to pass the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act of 2017. This legislation would prevent the federal government from attack state approved legalization and medical marijuana laws.

This is a true test of our movement. Stand with is against these threats because together we are unstoppable. Together we will legalize marijuana nationwide.

this reminds me of the days when Nixon was in office. I guess they were right beside him. keep a nay list for the next election. I was so hoping I could legally get control of excreting spasms without taking a pill. More bad meds and more money for big pharm.

I said it before and I’ll say it again.

Jeff Sessions is a total loser. He is fake news. He uses alternative facts, shit he pulls out of his ass. Sessions, you are talking out your ass. Go to Colorado. Folks are going to be looking at you, and you can shake their hands and look them in the eye and tell them you’re going to axe their jobs. Really? Trump, the jobs prez–or not! Your jobs program is looking like paying for another war, by your actions and not words. You call that Arbeitspolitik? Sessions, you’re going to need to go out there, and come back convinced to let legalization proceed, even recommend it to the president himself. Hell, take Trump with you, and share some weed, because you really need the expanded state of mind to look at yourselves from outside the political fish bowl and its echo chambers. Put on some Pearl Jam and think about how to avoid fucking up things.

Anslinger redux? I thought even he had to reverse himself on that–largely thanks to Mayor LaGuardia’s independent investigation.

Instead of inducing violence, the real problem was that it induced passivity!

Is this a cyclic thing? The lies change from decade to decade; the idiocy of the Anslingerites remains constant.

Police Unions are behind the phony statistics. Yet another reason to ban public sector unions. Maybe if we stop focusing only on Marijuana and push really hard on Industrialized Cannabis we can show that there’s a lot more to Cannabis than just getting high. Also it looks the same to a helicopter. Really we should be able to grow in our yard even in inner cities. Prohibition makes as much sense as a marriage license in a free country, it doesn’t.

    5. Gary says:

I know of one Congress critter that won’t vote for this; the despicable tea party, small/limited government, except when it comes to cannabis, Republican Andy Harris. He’s the main reason D.C. has not been able to regulate cannabis. It’s my hope that this POS is ousted, with other anti cannabis R’s, in 2018.
