For the past 7 years the Louisville Late Night TV Show has been celebrating the past, present and ongoing profound contributions of Harvard Medical School Professor Dr. Lester Grinspoon, M.D, (retired) to stop the arrest of responsible marijuana smokers and advance the use of marijuana as a medicine with their annual Louisville “Lester Grinspoon Day.”This year Patrick Moore, the producer of Louisville Late Night, would like to expand this celebration of the life and work of Dr. Grinspoon by involving a wider coalition of groups and individuals in this process.

You can listen to interview from Sunday on Louisville Public Radio station 89.3 WFPL | This week on Studio 619.

Please mark your calendar for June 24, the date we will be celebrating the life of Lester Grinspoon, and join us by coming up with a creative way to show our respect and appreciation for this man who has for nearly 40 years been perhaps the single most influential proponent for legalizing marijuana in America.

Patrick Moore on this annual celebration:
“Here in Louisville recent “Lester Grinspoon Day” celebrations have included: discussion and revelry with the Libertarian Party of Kentucky at their annual Kentucky State Convention and interviews with Dr. Grinspoon on the Louisville Late Night TV Show (including last year’s excellent show created by filmmaker Danielle Franco).”

Moore cordially invites citizens who consume cannabis and/or who’re interested in its reform, to join the good folk of Louisville “in making this June 24, 2008, “Lester Grinspoon Day,” a time of celebration, reflection & resolve to continue our efforts until we achieve our political goals.”

Dr. Grinspoon maintains two fascinating and informative webpages:

    1. Happy birthday, Lester.

Your role as the leading intellectual advocate for legalizing marijuana has been incredibly important to NORML and to the tens of millions of Americans who smoke marijuana responsibly. We are proud to have worked closely with you over all these years, and grateful for the benefits of your scholarship and advocacy.

I, for one, intend to smoke a joint at the end of the day, and I’ll be thinking about your enormous contributions to this movement.

      Onward and upward!

      Happy Birthday Dr. Grinspoon!
As a Crohn’s disease patient, I have found your work to be both intriguing and invaluable. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do to educate the public about cannabis.
When I take my medicine later, and am able to eat a nice meal, I will think of you on your birthday and wish you many, many more!

    4. Just a little dose of truth can go a long way.
Even after all these years physicians around the world
are basically split into two groups: 1) those who are
aware of Dr. Grinspoon’s contributions to our understanding of medicinal cannabis and 2) those
      who are simply clueless.

Those in the former group understand & appreciate Dr. Grinspoon’s courageous
& consistent speaking out. Those in the latter, probably not so much. Nonetheless, over time, as
people become more aware of their basic human rights
and what is available to them, we will prevail.

Our success will undoubtedly be due in no small part to the wisdom & guidance of Dr. Lester Grinspoon, M.D.– we salute you!

    5. Liz says:

Happy Birthday, Dr. Grinspoon from all of us at Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute. Thank you for your tireless effort to bring the truth of marijuana to a wider audience.

As residents of Maui, we are licensed by the State of Hawaii to possess and cultivate Medical Marijuana because of severe pain incurred from an automobile accident. So it would be very easy for us on Maui to celebrate Dr. Grinspoon’s birthday properly.

But because we are on the mainland near Louisville, we are unable to acquire any medicine even though we possess a license issued by the State of Hawaii. For 2 weeks we have had to deal with a higher level of pain and reduced productivity.

We thank Dr. Grinspoon for his efforts to gain professional recognition of what many of us already know from personal experience.

We hope more states see the wisdom in allowing Medical Marijuana patients to acquire their doctor prescribed medication safely without fear of legal persecution and home invasions.

      Peace, Love and Aloha

    6. Anonymous says:

Everyone go out and get a copy of Marijuana The Forbidden Medicine By Lester Grinspoon and James B. Bakalar. If this book doesen’t make congress want to pass a bill to legalize Maraijuana, I dont know what will.

    7. Happy Birthday Dr Grinspoon! Keep up the good fight!

“Neither cannabis nor human physiology has changed since cannabis was illegitimately removed from the U.S. Pharmacopeia in 1940.” [as Dr Tod might say…]

    8. marcy duda says:

    10. Another year, another celebration of the life &
